Historical Notes: This photograph was taken before Roy street and its houses existed. It was also taken before the sports ground was ringed with cabbage trees. These would not have been planted before 1904 which was the year that the Baths and Reserves Department was established. Under this department, which was resposable for all Wellington's parks and reserves until 1913, cabbage trees were widly used as ornamental plants.
