'Immigration Service'. 14 May, 2008
Reference Number: DCDL-0006535
Shows the 'boss' of the Immigration Service escaping down a rope of tied sheets from the Immigration Service building (which looks rather like Mount Eden Prison) with three months pay stuck in her belt. Refers to the resignation of Mary Anne Thompson from her job as head of the Immigration Service after allegations of corruption were made against the service. It has since transpired that her credentials are in question which has caused embarrassment to the government because a former position she held was in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, where she was first appointed under Jenny Shipley, in 1998. The escape from prison recalls an incident a few weeks ago when a prisoner escaped from Mount Eden Prison in just this way.
