Lodge, Nevile Sidney, 1918-1989 :There are those amongst us whose love of good food and wine has assured a permanent place for this important part of the enjoyment of living. 1969.
Reference Number: B-133-846
The quote is from a speech by the Minister of Tourism, David Thomson, at the opening of the National Food and Wine Festival in Napier. Lodge comments that there are those amongst us who have to resist the hankering for high living (a man pulls his wife away from the menu outside Le Bon Viveur Restaurant towards Joe's pie cart) and the yearning for exotic dishes with expensive wines (a man looks dolefully at a fish shop window where a sign says oysters 45c a dozen, and No crayfish all gone for export) and make do with just living which is about as high as most of us can stomach (a couple look at grocery and meat bills).
