Camp.....came yesterday - more today - nothing doing - heard of the murders and got our English letters yesterday - Tupper 50th arrived in camp. Sunday 12 - Monday 13 - Tupper dined with us & whist - 14. Valentine's Day - wonder if my little folks have got those I sent home 9 december - I shall hear in May - 15 Marched at midnight -- 16 - reached Patea about 8 & camped by 9 - 17- Nothing doing. redoubt building of course - 18,19,20 - Rainy - Steamers in and out - talk of moving upriver 21,2,3 Rainier, completing a large redoubt - few natives come prowling and get fired at from long distance. Spent much time in drawing by day, a ride if possible & whist by night - Campbell taken ill and Gen [Waddy?] gets thrown & breaks collarbone - Mulloy loses himself & we suppose he does a little "pai marire" - 24 Feby - Army crosses the Patea.
