Historical Notes: A ship's steward (Englishman, Anthony McGuire) was shot in the stomach when the ship was leaving Wellington in the early morning of 4 February. Wellington police were sent to investigate. Passengers on the Durango included former Prime Minister Sir Walter Nash who was travelling to the United Kingdom.
