Historical Notes: The rail track ran out into Te Aro Harbour over a trestle railway. Peter McGrath undertook to reclaim 23 acres in 1882 and went bankrupt in 1884. (Information from 'Colonial capital: Wellington 1865-1910' by Terence Hodgson, Auckland, Random Century, 1990.)
