"Tagging is simply artistic self-expression... and if you don't engage with these kids... ... who knows what they'll get up to behind your back!" 8 February, 2008
Reference Number: DCDL-0004955
Co-leader of the Maori Party, Tariana Turia declares that tagging is simply artistic self-expression and that if taggers are not engaged with who knows what they will get up to. Behind her are two youths with arms folded looking smug and unrepentent. Tariana Turia turns to walk away and one sees that her back is covered with tagging. Refers to the problem of tagging over the school holidays. Tariana Turia has a very sympathetic attitude in the face of increasing rage by people whose properties are tagged.
