Historical Notes: Two work relief camps for soldiers at Paraparaumu were set up in 1932 by the Returned Services Association, for returned servicemen who were unable to access Government work relief schemes. Many of those in these camps were in some way disabled. The camps were in operation until about 1940. (Info from Peter Cook, 2008).
