Mounted troops of the NZEF Canterbury Mounted Rifles crossing the Ferrymead Bridge over the Heathcote River, circa 28 September 1914. They were on their way to Lyttelton to leave for World War I. The scow `Cascade' is visible on the right. Glimpses of the Zealandia soap work (background, right) and the Heathcote race course (background, left) can also be seen. The Heathcote Arms Hotel is hidden by trees. Photographer unidentified.
