Historical Notes: Victoria Park was to commemorate Queen Victoria's Jubilee. Council decided on the plan in 1897. Planting went ahead in 1898 & 1899. The plantations struggled on in the face of norwesters and summer droughts, visibly diminishing, until only a remnant survived by 1914. Vestiges of the park were visible into the 1920s.
