Shows a broad view of the harbour and foreshore at Picton from the eastern side, with yachts, launches, and many canoes, several in a race at the right of the picture. One of the launches is packed with spectators. There is a steamship tied up at the wharf at the right, and many spectators standing on the wharf. There are buildings on the waterfront, and houses further back to the left, one a distinctive two-storeyed house with verandahs and balconies and a turret.
