View down over Pigeon Bay with a single ship in the bay, low scrub near the foreshore and a cabbage tree to the left. A Maori man is reclining in the right foreground, looking at the view, a taiaha in his left hand. He is smoking a pipe and wears a tam o'shanter beret.
