Historical Notes: Heathfield was one of the farms of the New Zealand Discharge Depot at Torquay, Devonshire that operated in World War I. New Zealanders unfit for military service worked on eighty acres of the estate owned by Lord Clifford. (H T B Drew, NZ Army at Home)
