The building is two-storied and its front face is towards Kelburn Parade. There is a glimpse of the Mount Street cemetery beyond the building to the left, featuring the gravestone with a tall cross of Father O'Reily.

Historical Notes: There were nine entries in the competition, all submitted over a pseudonym. Penty & Blake came first (with a 2-storey building, expanded to three storeys for space reasons); Joshua Charlesworth was 2nd. 'Associate' was 3rd, and 'Mr A.' was 4th. Possibly Clere's entry was submitted over the name 'Experience'
