Historical Notes: N class locomotive built by Baldwin Locomotive Works, Philadelphia for the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company (maker's no 12104/91), as WMR no 9. At the end of 1908 the company was purchased by the Government, and it was renumbered NZR 'N453'. Written off in November 1926. See 'Register of New Zealand steam locomotives, 1863-1971' by W G Lloyd, and 'Cavalcade of New Zealand locomotives' by A N Palmer & W W Stewart.
