Historical Notes: The RNZAF set up a Recruiting Centre and an Initial Training school for pilots, observers and air gunners in the old Centennial Exhibition buildings in September 1939. By 1940 the buildings also housed the Technical Training School. (Information from `The history of New Zealand aviation' by Ross Ewing and Ross Macpherson, Heinemann, 1986, pages 122, 128)
