Caricature of Robert Gates amd Donald Rumsfeld standing in a state of shock and awe before what looks like Iraq in a state of meltdown. From a crushed and ruined heap of debris protrudes a wheel, and several mosques and a lot of screws. Robert Gates holds a spanner. On November 8, 2006, after the 2006 midterm election result, President George W. Bush announced his intent to nominate Gates to succeed the resigning Donald Rumsfeld as U.S. Secretary of Defense.
