Historical Notes: The `Opawa' was built in 1906 and weighed 7202 tons gross. She was operated by the New Zealand Shipping Company between 1906 and 1927. 1927-1934 Norwegian owned, renamed Antarctic; 1934-1936 Japanese owned, renamed Antarctic Maru; 1936-1943 Japanese owned, renamed Tonan Maru. Torpedoed off coast of Annam, November 1943.
