A road, fence and gate with a man standing by the gate, above a house surrounded by trees in the foreground. The beach of Governor's Bay with a jetty to the left, with Lyttelton and its houses and harbour in the middle distance. A steam ship can be seen at the entrance to the harbour in the distance and the harbourside road is clearly visible on the hills to the left.
