Ink drawing of a costume, consisting of a large pointed helmet and grass skirt worn by the men of New Ireland. The top is tall, four-sided and completed covers the head, resting on the shoulders, while the attached grass or reeds reach the man's knees. From the grass on the right appears the man's hand holding a long fine spear.

Les figures en noir doivent paraitre en blanc sure le trellis' [the figures in blank may appear in white on the grating, apparently a reference to the decorated eye-holes of the headdress shown]
