Historical Notes: This march was a protest against the National Government's intention to "tidy up" the abortion issue. One of the fears relating to this was that the Government would close the Aotea private Hospital and thus restrict the oportunity for many women to have abortions. The march represented pro-abortion groups, and other women's groups such as the Women's Electoral Lobby.
