WIXGATUI VIADUCT, THE LARGEST BRIDGE OX THE ROUTE OF THE O'IAGO CENTRAL RAILWAY. Following are a few particulars of the dimensions and quantities of material used in this well-known bridge, which wa9 the largest structure of its kind in the colony until echp?ed by the Xorth Island Main Trunk bridge at Makohine (height, 240 ft from base):—Length, 690 ft lOin over abutments; width, 12ft Bin; length of main spans, 106 ft 3in , length of end spans, 66ft lin; height from creek bed to top of parapet, 153 ft; masonry and concrete used, 6240 tons; cast iron, 27 tons; malleable :ron, 557 tons; timber, 114 tons. The builders were Messrs R. S. Sparrow and Co., under the active supervision of Mr E. Roberts, engineer for the contractor. (Otago Witness, 20 February 1907)
