Historical Notes: James Coutts Crawford creator of the album, and who probably took many of the images, returned to New Zealand in late 1857. Sir Charles Clifford and family who feature in a number of images in this album, returned to England in 1860. For this reason the date has been established as between 1858 and 1860. This is also consistent with the women's dresses. Full crinolines as seen in the album were in fashion from 1856 to 1864.
