"I see they gave our old mate 10 years 'cos he's a Maori!" 29 August 2005.
Reference Number: DCDL-0000113
Three scruffy-looking men are playing pool. Two of them appear to be Maori and the third Pakeha. The first Maori man comments that his old mate got ten years because he was Maori; the Pakeha adds 'An a burglar, a home invader, and a rapist!', and the third man, Maori also, acknowledges, 'That too.' The reference may be to the fact that some people persist in denying the culpability of Donna Awatere-Huata in the fraud that she has recently been convicted with and are determined to believe that she has been convicted because of the fact that she is Maori.
