Part of a handwritten ship's newspaper for the Duke of Portland, 1851, with a sketch showing a contribution box, two men approaching with their rolled up contributions to the newspaper and two others observing. The box is inscribed "Editor's box. D. of P." The newspaper is issue no. 4, Thursday 17 July 1851 and the text of an editorial is shown. Also visible beneath the editorial is part of a page of copies of signatures of passengers, part of a letter of appreciation to the ship's chaplain, Rev A N Butterworth, dated 17 September 1851
