New Zealand political leaders William Massey and Joseph Ward arriving on the wharf clutching items 'obtained' as the result of the peace settlement at the end of World War One. These represent peace honours, Western Samoan as a mandated territory, a new training ship, a new cruiser, a gift of aeroplanes, and Nauru Island with its resources of superphosphate fertiliser.
