Tempsky, Gustavus Ferdinand von, 1828-1868 [attrib} :The surrender. Punch in Canterbury, 17 June 1865 (page 44)

Reference Number: A-315-3-008

Wiremu Kingi Tarapipi Te Waharoa is standing, after addressing a group of his fellow Maori who are seated at his feet within the palisades of a pa. To the right, in the background, a ship is standing at sea while troops are marched towards it, overseen by Brigadier-General Carey on horseback. A group of volunteer Pakeha troops are marching up from the middle distance on the right. The suggestion is that the volunteers and rangers will be a far more formidable force than the Queen's troops who had not been used effectively.
