Sea cadets marching to the Town Hall, Wellington, 6 October 1973, prior to the opening of the Wellington Navy League's 26th conference. Photograph taken for the Evening Post. Photographer unidentified.Original caption reads: "The Governor-General was presented with an armed guard from the Wellington Navy League Sea Cadet Unit outside the Town Hall this morning. A march by about 100 young sea cadets from Grey Street to the Town Hall preceded the presentation. In the absence of the Minister of Defence (Mr Faulkner), the Minister of Mines (Mr Colman) addressed the conference. Mr Colman said the navy would in the future be called on to enforce fishery regulations off New Zealand's coast to a greater degree than at present. "To enable the Navy more effectively to accomplish the fishery protection and patrolling tasks, it will shortly be taking delivery of the first of four new, more modern, more powerful and seaworthy patrol craft from Britain." he said.....Sir Denis inspected the parade and later in the morning officially opened the Navy League's 26th conference. The league is this year celebrating its 25th anniversary..." (Evening Post, 6 October 1973)
