Historical Notes: This photograph was taken between 1900 and 1904. The single horse tram track still runs down Lambton Quay, and though the Wellington City Council purchased the Wellington Tramway Company in 1900, there was no change in the sevice until at least 1904 when the trams were electified. As a consequence of this there were fancy standards and brackets holding the tram wires and a double rail system was built.
