Historical Notes: Ob class locomotive built by Baldwin Locomotive Works, Philadelphia for the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company (maker's no 9021/88), as WMR no 12. At the end of 1908 the company was purchased by the Government, and it was renumbered NZR 'Ob' 456. Written off in September 1929. See 'Register of New Zealand steam locomotives, 1863-1971' by W G Lloyd, and 'Cavalcade of New Zealand locomotives' by A N Palmer & W W Stewart.
