Historical Notes: Originally No 2. on the Wellington and Manawatu Railway, "Wh" class no. 448 steam locomotive was built by Manning Wardle (Maker's no. 921/84). When the line was purchased by New Zealand Railways in 1908 it was renumbered "Wh" 448. Written off in December 1926. See "Register of New Zealand Railways steam locomotives, 1863-1971" by W G Lloyd, and "Cavalcade of New Zealand locomotives" by A N Palmer and W W Stewart.
