Westinghouse petrol-electric railcar, photographed by Albert Percy Godber in 1914. A label is resting against the car with the inscription "Westinghouse Petrol Electric Car". This image is a film copy negative taken by Godber from a print in his album Vol 101, p 36 (PA1-o-195)

Historical Notes: R.M.1 (Rail motor number one), the Westinghouse petrol-electric rail motor was built ca 1914. The frame and motors were built by Westinghouse Co., England, and the body was built at Petone Railway Workshops. It ran from Wellington to Upper Hutt, and Thorndon to Johnsonville, with seating for 48 passengers. Withdrawn in 1917. See Godber album (Vol 108, p 71)
