A photograph from Jack Lovelock's albums, showing the medal ceremony for the 1500 metres at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.With Lovelock on the dias are his long-time rivals: Luigi Beccali of Italy, who came third, in the front, and Glenn Cunningham at the back. Second from left is Arthur Porritt, the New Zealand team manager. Lovelock is holding the oak seedling given to all winners. It is now a very big tree at his old school, Timaru Boys' High School.
