Historical Notes: "Josephine" was a "Fairlie" locomotive built by Vulcan Foundry which was brought to New Zealand by the Dunedin and Port Chalmers Railway Company in 1872. In 1876 it was taken into stock by New Zealand Railways and was classified "E" 175. Used in different capacities until it was renovated in 1925 for display at the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition, fitted with "balloon" funnels.
