Historical Notes: "P" 268 was built by Nasmyth Wilson (maker's no 272/85) entered service in May 1887 and was written off in March 1922. Built originally with a wooden cab which was later changed to a steel cab. (Information from the 'Register of New Zealand Steam Locomotives 1863-1971' by W G Lloyd, 1974, page 56, and 'Cavalcade of New Zealand locomotives' by A N Palmer & W W Stewart.)
