Original caption reads: "New Zealanders on occupational duties. Members of the 22nd Battalion were among the first New Zealanders to take up their occupational duties in Japan. They took over control of the repatriation centre at Senzaki from American troops 24 hours after they disembarked at Kure. Here is a general view of the repatriation centre. This day 3,000 Japanese passed through, but there appeared to be no relations or friends to meet them." Photograph taken ca 1946 by a New Zealand Army photographer.
