Historical Notes: Members of the Whanganui River tribes and their supporters occupied the Moutoa Gardens, Wanganui, from the 28th of February until the 18th of May, 1995. The purpose of this action was to publicise their demand for the return of the gardens to Maori ownership and highlight awarness to the larger issues relating to land claims in the region. The march shown in this image was part of the Moutoa Gardens protest.
