Historical Notes: Original newspaper caption states "....Mr Malin (a 1920-21 Wellington rugby representative), the park caretaker (Mr P A Hinds) and four other workers spent two days clearing the ground from the aftermath of last Wednesdays storm. Lead-capped nails were showered onto the ground after roofing iron on the main stand was lifted and hurled down by fierce wind....". (Evening Post, 19 April 1968).
