Bust of explorer James Cook, uniformed and pigtailed (recto) with inscription Iac. Cook oceanie investigator acerrimus (James Cook, the most intrepid explorer of the oceans); on verso: figure of Britannia (or Fortune), with rudder, globe and shield; inscribed with motto and 'Auspiciis Georg. III'. There is also a legend from Horace around the edge of the globe 'Nil inventatum nostri liquere' (Our men have left nothing unattempted).
