A detail of a larger watercolour. This view centres on the church, viewed from the south-east, with a flagpole behind it, several graves in the churchyard, a row of soldiers standing in the street beyond it, houses on the hill behind it and part of another flagpole atop the hill. The sea is in the background. The full view (see negative 123990 1/2) includes the military camp of the 40th Regiment in the foreground, soldiers parading, a wider view of New Plymouth's houses on both sides and the sea in the distance with Paritutu rock on the far left.
