Historical Notes: The Ud class steam locomotives were built by Baldwin Locomotive Works, Philadelphia in 1904. Originally owned by the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company (Nos 19 & 20), they became NZR "Ud" class 464 & 465 when Government acquired the Manawatu Railway. (Information from the 'Register of New Zealand Steam Locomotives 1863-1971' by W G Lloyd, 1974.) See also "Cavalcade of New Zealand locomotives" by A N Palmer and W W Stewart (p 80).
