Historical Notes: "D" 197, a D class steam locomotive, was built by Neilson & Co., Glasgow (maker's no 1844/74), went into service on 5 April 1879 and was written off in 1916. Source: "Register of New Zealand Railways steam locomotives, 1863-1971" by W G Lloyd (p 53).
