Historical Notes: Protests were against the 1981 Springbok rugby tour. In Hamilton protestors occupied the ground and the game was concelled. This resulted in the Muldoon Government using riot police, and for the rest of the tour games were played behind barbed wire barriers. On the streets protestors and police clashed in increasingly violent battles
