Historical Notes: John Marshall represented the New Zealand Government, and agricultural trade interests in Europe at the time that Britain was moving to join the European Economic Community. He was responsable for negotiating an agreement allowing New Zealand's agricultural products continued access to the British, and to a lesser extent, the European markets, though this access was controlled by a quota system which reduced quanity over time.
