The south side of No 3 outpost, Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey, photographed by James Read during the World War 1 Gallipoli campaign in 1915.Notes on back of file print read: " Caption from original negative envelope: 'The south side of No ?[3] outpost. This position was taken on the night of the 6th August by the Auckland Mounted Rifle Regt. The bayonet only being used.' "Notes on back of file print read: " Old number 3 post had been held by the New Zealand Mounted Rifles in May but was eventually abandoned to the Turks. - Waite 'The New Zealanders at Gallipoli' p 322. It was retaken on the 6th August, 1915. "
