"Popular Girl" contestants in evening wear, Blue Triangle Hall, Boulcott Street, Wellington, 1932, photographed by William Hall Raine. The contest was organised by the Wellington YWCA and its supporters to provide funds for the general purposes of the YWCA and to help unemployed girls. The sixteen entrants in the contest, representing different business firms, are shown on the stage after the final result of the voting has been announced. Miss Alice Hall, representing Kirkcaldie and Stains, is on the throne of honour. Sponsors names on sashes include: Hannah & Company, Colonial Motor Company, Wellington Woollen Manufacturing Company, McKenzie, James Smith, Bonds Hosiery Mill, Whitehead & Pears and Woolworths.
