Historical Notes: The original newspaper caption reads: "Maori land protesters consolidate their position in Parliament grounds early this afternoon. They moved their gear from the tents into this 'embassy' tent and sat five deep on mattresses around it. This exercise was supposed to be symbolic of the passive resistance that the group will make when they are turned out of the grounds. Shortly after, about 200 people were in the grounds during a warm sunny lunchtime listening to the group's speakers". (Evening Post, 23 October 1975)
