Two tents sheltering redcoat solders and their equipment right foreground, two burnt bushes left foreground with centrally-placed wooden palisades of the stockade built by the British forces. Several other soldiers and one Maori on guard. Three small Cohorn mortars are inside the stockade. In the left background on a low hill, the Ruapekapeka pa is in flames.
