Shows a cleared area in a hollow, with a large fallen tree trunk in the left foreground. A man is seated in the centre foreground on a smaller trunk, near his saddled horse. A fence stretches across the foreground, and beyound the white wooden gate, a man drives two cows away through the cleared area, beyond which there is bush-covered rolling plain leading to Mt Taranaki in the distance. On the left two small huts stand among bare trees. There is a tree fern near the huts.
