Three brown and yellow butterflies, two shown in flight, and one feeding on a sunflower. According to the artist's notes 'Feeds on Crosswort and sun flower, frequents the Oak Woods of Burkes County but is not common'.

Historical Notes: Letter from John Calhoun (AT 13/14/1, 12 November 2002) says that this is a copy by Abbot from his original drawing (made ca 1804). He also made a later drawing ca 1820, omitting the plant and the male butterfly.
